Wu-Tang Clan receive $5 million offer for rare album
The Wu-Tang Clan‘s plans to sell just one single copy of their new double album is already paying off – the rappers have been offered $5 million for the disc.
Group leader RZA revealed last week that “Once Upon A Time In Shaolin,” which took five years to record, will be presented in “a hand carved nickel-silver box” designed by British-Moroccan artist Yahya, and will be displayed at art exhibitions around the world before going up for sale.
The idea was to turn the 31-track CD into a one-of-a-kind collector’s item – and the hip-hop collective has already been flooded with offers from rich fans.
RZA tells Billboard.com, “So far, $5 million is the biggest number. I don’t know how to measure it (the success of the planned project), but it gives us an idea that what we’re doing is being understood by some.”
“Once Upon A Time In Shaolin” isn’t the only project the group is working on – the rappers also plan to release a 20th anniversary album this summer.
