Tarrus Riley – Love Situation

tarrus riley love

What happens when you take a DJ that has developed a very unique singing style and mix that with the classic sounding but fattened tracks?  You now have a situation; a Love Situation to be exact.  I have never been a fan of skits on music albums so I’ll look past the ones on the album.  From track 2, 1 2 3 I love you, the album is off to great start.  Tarrus’s raspy tone works so well over these tracks.   It is so refreshing to find an album that has been treated as  a project and not just a bunch of songs, randomly pulled together and called an album.

Interestingly, Tarrus began his career as a DJ but was quite willing to differ to some of the veteran DJ’s in the business.  Big Youth, Daddy U-Roy and Konshens make solid contributions on their various track but the “sleeper” is the song “Special Occasion” featuring Whippa Demus.  This is it!  This is the song that will solidly sit on the charts. in This is the type of song that recaptures the fun, lighthearted side of reggae.  This is what people around the world think reggae should be.  The sing-jay and the DJ bring back an old school vibe.

Congratulations to the Cannon/JukeBox team.  Job well done!  I am patiently waiting to see what the Reggae Grammy is going to do with this album.
