Another sales surge for Grammy-nominated sets

There is another sales spike this week for albums nominated for Best Reggae Album at the 60th Grammy Awards scheduled for January 28 at Madison Square Garden in New York.

There has been an uptick for Morgan Heritage’s Avrakedabra (number 28, with sales of 24 copies up from 22 the previous week); J Boog’s Wash House Ting(number 24, sales of 29 copies up from 18); Lost in Paradise by Common Kings (number nine, with sales of 87 copies moving up from 54); Chronology by Chronixx (number six, increased sales of 157 copies up from 112); and Damian Marley’s Stony Hill (at number two with 268 copies, an increase over the 226 copies sold the previous week).

Elsewhere on the charts, San Diego, California, rock-reggae band Tribal Seeds debuts at number one with Roots Party. Released on December 1 by their Tribal Seeds Music, the eight-track set features the songs Aroma, Guns Smoke (featuring Protoje), Roots Party, Empress, and Rude Girl.

This is the second chart-topper for Tribal Seeds. Their previous number one was 2014’s Representing. The group has also charted with the EP, Soundwaves, which peaked at number two in 2011, and 2009’s Harvest which stalled at number five.

Former number one, Box Full of Steel, by The Dubplates falls to number three with an additional 217 copies sold, while Good Life by Collie Buddz shoots up from 25 to number four, thanks to 195 copies more sold.

Poetry in Motion by SOJA falls to number five with 181 copies, while I’m Yours by Sizzla slips to number seven after selling 111 copies.

Even with 110 copies sold, Marching Orders, a former number one by The Green, falls from five to eight. Havana Meets Kingston by Mista Savona also experiences a drop, from eight to 10.

Live at Red Rocks by Rebelution is up to number 11, while Jesse Royal’s Lily of Da Valley rises from 19 to 12.

The compilation, A Reggae Alliance, rises from 22 to 13.

Another compilation, Soul Jazz Records Presents Dancehall: The Rise of Jamaica,debuts at number 14 with 53 copies. Strictly The Best Volume 56 falls from 10 to 15 with 49 copies sold last cycle.
