ST JAMES, Jamaica — Twenty-two year-old university student, Laurie Ann Chin, is Miss Jamaica World 2014. She was crowned Saturday night at the Montego Bay Convention Centre.

The judges selected Chin over 18 contestants. They named a top 12 which was whittled to the final five. Making that final cut were Chin wearing the sash Miss University College of the Caribbean; Chantol White (Miss CHIC Hair Ja); Shellianne Young (Miss Evans Electrical); Kim Moya Dawkins (Miss Mystic Mountain); and Kimberley Webb (Miss Sunset Resorts).

Young was runner-up while Webb (whose final placing was greeted with boos, as members of the audience felt she should have placed higher), finished third.

Another crowd favourite, Toni Ann Oliver (Ms American Jewellery Company), failed to make the top five. Following the question and answer segment, the results were revealed with Chin also taking Best Figure.

The other sectional prizes went to: Webb (Most Aware, Best Smile); Best Legs (Brittany Pink, Miss Klip Xtreme); Most Sociable (Kim Moya Dawkins; Beauty in Business (Shanta Spencer, Miss Dunn’s Furniture & Home Décor); Most Congenial (Kadian Collins, Miss She H.A.S. It); People’s Choice (Shanna Kay Ellis, Miss Margaritaville Jamaica).

The entertainment package included performances from Benjy Myaz and Faraji.

The contest was promoted by Laura Butler and Associates, franchise holders of the Ms Jamaica World Organization.
