WASHINGTON, USA — Jamaica was a much sought after destination at the tenth annual Washington DC Travel and Adventure Show held at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center on February 22 and 23.

Destination Jamaica was on brilliant display, as the Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB), along with Island Routes, Sandals, Beaches Resort, tour operators to Jamaica STS Vacations and Mystic Ridge Resorts mounted an attractive and exciting booth.

JTB’s business development manager for the mid-Atlantic region, Victoria Harper-Rogers, who was on hand to greet the many consumers who visited the booth, eager to gather information on visiting Jamaica said, “The Washington, DC, region has been experiencing a brutally cold winter with blizzard-like conditions and snow-storms with record-low temperatures which has residents eager to escape the cold and get to Jamaica to feel our warmth and sunshine.”

She said the travel adventure show gives Jamaica the opportunity to provide potential visitors with information on the various travel packages and attractions in Jamaica as well as answer questions.

Harper-Rogers, who has the specific responsibility of growing Jamaica’s tourism market share from the Mid-Atlantic region, noted that in 2013 there was an increase over 2012 in stopover arrivals of 5% for Virginia, 1.5% for Maryland and .4% for the District of Columbia. The JTB manager said she was looking forward to another record breaking year in visitor arrivals from the region.

The DC Travel and Adventure show is part of the largest series of travel shows in the US attracting over 2,000 attendees and 200 exhibitors to the two-day event. The show is a one-stop shopping market-place where consumers can find hundreds of unique vacation options, travel deals and travel information under one roof. Attendees also have access to travel experts, travel seminars, on-hand activities, culinary demonstrations and cultural performances.
