Guinness to laud dancehall’s 50 greatest
GUINNESS intends to recognise and celebrate the 50 most influential persons behind dancehall music.
In keeping with Jamaica 50 celebrations, the stout will be offering a platform for consumers to choose the greatest dancehall icons of all time
“As we begin celebrating Jamaica 50, Guinness wants to recognise the influencers and playmakers of this unique and great culture we own called dancehall,” said Racquel Nevins, Guinness brand manager.
The categories will include DJs, producers, selectors, and sound system owners.
Guinness has been involved in dancehall for years with previous partnerships Stone Love sound system, sponsorship of Sting and Reggae Sumfest, the Guinness Sounds of Greatness sound clash competitions, and the current Guinness Greatness in the Streets, which is a community-focused street dance activity.
The annual Arthur Guinness Day concert have also featured dancehall acts such as Agent Sasco, Beenie Man, and Bounty Killer.
“Dancehall has created iconic personalities, enjoyed international acclaim through the Grammy Awards and, perhaps, most importantly, contributed to the culture of the Jamaica people in significant respects,” Nevin concluded.
