Gabrielle Union, Dwyane Wade Release Statement After Nude Photo Leak, Will Contact FBI
A second wave of leaked nude photographs shocked pop culture this weekend, and Gabrielle Union was one of the victims.
Union and husband Dwyane Wade released a statement regarding the situation, and also said they would be reaching out to the FBI, according to TMZ.
“It has come to our attention that our private moments, that were shared and deleted solely between my husband and myself, have been leaked by some vultures,” the statement read.
They also made it clear that this act was not only an affront against women, but part of the continued cultural assault against black women.
“I can’t help but to be reminded that since the dawn of time women and children, specifically women of color, have been victimized, and the power over their own bodies taken from them,” it read. “These atrocities against women and children continue worldwide.
“For anyone out there also being affected by these and other hacking and hate crimes — We send our love, support and prayers. We have done nothing wrong.”
There are some who disagree with that last statement, including former American Idol star Clay Aiken, who is currently running for congress in North Carolina.
“Anybody who takes inappropriate pictures of themselves deserves exactly what they get,” he said in a recent interview with the Washington Post. “I’ve got a mirror if I want to check something out.”
He wasn’t completely heartless about the situation that has now affected hundreds of (mostly) female celebrities.
“Of course whoever [stole and released the photos] should be hogtied,” he said. “And it’s unfortunate that we don’t have Internet security right now or the laws in place to protect people from pirating that stuff.”
