Couples Are Going Crazy to Get Married on 12/13/14
20,000 U.S. couples are looking to wed that day so far
Underscoring the importance of literal, trENdY*~* wedding dates, 20,000 American couples are already planning to get married on 12/13/14, according to a David’s Bridal poll. The New York Post reports the weekend, which had only 7,200 weddings last year, is booking fast.
“We’ve had to turn a lot of people away,” Julie Miller, a production manager at Long Island City venue The Foundry, told the outlet. “We’ve gotten 20 requests for the day since we booked it [a few months back], and December is generally a quiet month for us.”
While the reasons for booking the date vary among couples, preschool director Jennifer Krysiak told the Post hers: the date’s “cool” factor, of course.
I always wanted a winter wedding, so I originally picked Dec. 6. But that wasn’t cool, and when I found out that 12/13/14 fell on a Saturday, I knew I had to pick it. We started planning as soon as we got engaged last September.
Last year’s sequentially cool date, 11/12/13, also had a spike in weddings. The Wall Street Journal reported New York’s City Hall had twice as many.
Given that history, wedding stores are stocking up for December 13, and some venues are going so far as to offer 12/13/14 wedding packages. Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, for example, has a ceremony-two buffet lunch special for $1,213.14 because you know, it’s a cute way to make money, running off the numbers craze.
