Cancer Claims Big Bad Hank
Henry Jackson popularly know as Big Bad hank of the Sugar Hill Gang succomed to complications due to cancer early Tuesday morning at Englewood Hospital in New Jersey. Jackson was 57 years old.
The Sugarhill gang formed in the late ’70s and was best-known for the 1979 hit single, “Rapper’s Delight.” It’s songs like Rapper Delight that have saved many a DJ from totally bombing at a party. When in doubt, play Rapper’s Delight! The crowd would instantly begin to sing along, act out parts and generally forget how many lousy songs had been played prior.
Still a “must have” in any DJ’s old-school set, Rappers Delight will now not only rock the party but be a constant reminder of a gentle giant, R,I,P. Big Bad Hank.
