Buju gun conviction thrown out; offered retrial on drug case

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Buju Banton’s gun conviction was overturned in  a Florida court today.

The dancehall artiste had returned to court for the outcome of his  juror misconduct case against Teri Wright.

Wright was accused of violating judge’s orders by doing Internet  research on the Pinkerton Law that was used to convict the artiste.

She may now face charges of contempt following a recommendation by  the judge.

Wright reportedly admitted in an earlier court sitting that she  used a laptop computer to research aspects of the law used in Myrie’s drug  trafficking case.

When asked to present the laptop hard drive for examination by a  forensic expert hired by Buju, it was revealed that Wright submitted the wrong  drive, and also that she had served on several juries before, a fact the  artiste’s lawyer said would have disqualified her from selection had they  known.

A motion was subsequently filed by Buju’s team to have the judge  rule that Wright had in fact violated his orders.
