#BoycottStarWarsVII trends on Twitter after new trailer drops featuring black lead actor
While the rest of the world is losing their collective minds with excitement over the recently released Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens trailer featuring hollywood newcomer John Boyega, a movement of disgruntled fans are rallying on Twitter asking moviegoers to #BoycottStarWarsVII.
Sigh – people need to get a grip.
Apparently, these fans don’t want to live in a universe in which the main characters of a Star Wars film aren’t white males. Never mind the fact that Darth Vader himself was voiced by a black man (James Earl Jones) or that Lando Calrissian (Billy Dee Williams) was in the original trilogy — and never mind the fact that the prequels gave us arguably the coolest Jedi ever in Mace Windu (Samuel L. Jackson).
For example, one Twitter account, called “Captain Confederacy,” complained that “SJWs [Social Justice Warriors] complain about White artists ‘misappropriating’ culture created by blacks but then celebrate a non-White Star Wars.”
