According to Farr, Whyte gave him the gun — a .38 revolver — and offered him the money to carry out the hit because he didn’t have the “know how” to do it himself. He said his intent wasn’t to kill Gray, but to “bluff” the shooting and collect the money.

Additionally, Farr said after he fired on Gray and went back to the car, Whyte refused to drive from the scene and demanded that he “make sure” that Gray was, in fact, dead.
This, along with other tantalising details — provided by both Farr and a man identified only as Mr X — were yesterday disclosed in the High Court Division of the Gun Court, where Whyte and Farr pleaded guilty to charges of illegal possession of firearm and ammunition and wounding with intent.
The information, which was revealed to the court, was disclosed by Director of Public Prosecutions Paula Llewellyn, QC, to the media “in the interest of the public”.
However, Christopher Townsend, Whyte’s lead attorney, told the Jamaica Observer that none of what has been said by Farr and Mr X about Whyte is true.
“What they are saying about him is not true at all. Certainly what was said in court isn’t something he’s admitting,” said Townsend, adding that witnesses will be called on the day of sentencing to speak to Whyte’s good character.
The men are to be sentenced by Justice Courtney Daye on July 5.
On the morning following the April 4, 2012 incident, Whyte told investigators, in the presence of an attorney, that he was brought on the scene under duress by Farr and the man who is now being referred to as Mr X.
Ever since news broke of the shooting of Gray, who was pregnant with the child of the married Whyte, the public has followed the case closely.
Gray, then a colleague of Whyte at KOOL FM, was shot at around 9 o’clock at night shortly after pulling up at her gate in Portmore, St Catherine.
Yesterday, Gray was present in court to give evidence after being brought into the island by the prosecution from her new home overseas.
The court heard, too, that Whyte allegedly told Gray to have an abortion, and stopped communicating with her for seven months after she informed him that she was pregnant. The court was also told that Whyte had told Gray that he was separated from his wife when they began their relationship
According to a section of the seven-page document to the media, which appears to be taken from Gray’s statement, Whyte, on the night of the incident, texted Gray enquiring if she was home and if she was going home before leaving the island. Gray had previously misrepresented to Whyte that she would be leaving the island on April 5.
She was shot by Farr shortly after receiving the text. He jumped out of a blue Toyota motor car being driven by Whyte and which had Mr X aboard.
Four days after the incident, Farr gave a statement to the police in the presence of an attorney.
In his statement, Farr denied holding up Whyte and taking him anywhere. He said Whyte is the one who told him that he wanted Gray killed, as she was a threat to his work and that “she is bringing him and another guy down in the work”.
He said Whyte gave the impression that Gray and this other “guy” that she was “bringing down” were in a relationship and that “guy” took his life because of her actions.
Farr said Whyte wanted Gray killed for, among other things, the fact that he, Whyte, had no money because of Gray, and that he had to be begging and borrowing.
He said Whyte did not tell him that Gray was pregnant.
