Americans give $300-M annually to Jamaican lottery scammers
Despite a media campaign for Americans to avoid calls from the 876 area code and a task force set up between Jamaica and the US which has resulted in arrests, Americans are stillgiving away their money to lotto scammers.
It’s estimated that Americans have handed over 300 million US dollars annually by the lottery scam.
This is up from 30 million US dollars three years ago.
State Minister in the Technology Ministry, Julian Robinson,is also warning of the crushing impact the lottery scam will have on the Jamaican economy if it continues to spread
In the wake of signs that the multi-billion dollar lottery scam is continuing to spread despite the clampdown by the Jamaican and US authorities the Government is to implement additional measures to tackle the problem.
They will be outlined by officials of the Ministry of Technology at a forum to be held on
The forum will, among other things, address the impact of lottery scam on Jamaica and the Government’s latest strategies for dealing with it
