2017 Grammy Reflection…

Music awards shows may come and go, but the original Grammys remain The Oscars of the music industry representing the entire music spectrum from classical, country and gospel to rock, rap and reggae.

This year, a full roster of Grammy nominees will be unveiled on November 28, 2017 — followed by the landmark 60th annual Grammy Awards which returns to New York City in 2018 for the first time in 15 years. The ceremony will air live from Madison Square Garden on Sunday, Sunday, January 28, 2018 from 8-11:30 PM ET on CBS Television.

Hosting this year’s ceremony for the second time in a row will be talk show host and funnyman James Corden.

The first Grammy for a rap performance was awarded in 1989 to the Fresh Prince (Will Smith) and DJ Jazzy Jeff.

• The Grammys is the second-most-watched awards show, after the Oscars.

• Stevie Wonder holds the record for most Grammys won by a solo artist, with 28 Grammys and a Lifetime Achievement award.

• In 1989, the Fresh Prince (Will Smith) and DJ Jazzy Jeff won the first Grammy for a Rap Performance.

• With a total of 21 Grammys, Kanye West has more Grammys than the Beatles, Barbra Streisand and James Taylor combined.

• The first artists to be stripped off from Grammys were Milli Vanilli in 1989, when it was discovered that their album was not originally sung by them. The duo, which won for Best New Artist that year, lip-synced a live performance during the program.

• Rapper and actor Snoop Dogg has been nominated 12 times for a Grammy but has never won.
